Facebook brings family back together after divorce

Imagine you and your spouse have been married for a while. You've had a couple of kids, and everything seems to be going just fine. After many years of marriage, though, you and your spouse fall on hard times. You are starting to bicker over things that, previously, you never would have thought twice about. After a year or so of trying to work through the tough times, you and your spouse decide it is best for everyone involved to file for divorce.

Now, let's say in the wake of this decision -- which you may not be too fond of -- you decide to go on a social media site to vent your frustrations. You insult your soon-to-be-former spouse and make some comments that you come to regret soon after posting them, How would this affect your divorce?

Well, it depends on the situation. In many cases, inflammatory comments online can cause the offending spouse to lose out on some things in the eventual divorce agreement. It depends on the case and the particular circumstances of the spouses; but the offending spouse is at risk.

Ultimately, this story highlights the fact that social media should be handled with caution in the wake of a divorce.

And yet, there are the occasional stories that show social media and divorce do not have to have such a bad relationship. A Texas family, torn apart because of a divorce, has been reunited via the social media site Facebook. The children of the family used the website to contact and eventually locate their parents, who divorced many years ago.
