Study shows Texas has some of the happiest divorces

A new study seems to indicate that where you live may have an effect on how happy your divorce is. The study, published by CompleteCase.com, looks at the online divorce forms couples were filling out on the site to see which states seemed to have the nicest divorces. The data was compiled after looking through the online forms to see which states had the most couples who agreed with each other on the terms of the divorce and which states had more couples in disagreement.

Most of the states — 31 to be exact — ranked as "cordial," which was the middle of the road classification. Ten states were classified as "disagreeable," and another 10 earned the "amicable" rating. Rounding out the top 10 list of the states with the most amicable divorces was Texas. Many of the surrounding states, including Oklahoma and Kansas, also made the top 10 most amicable list.

According to CompleteCase.com's marketing director, one possible reason for the differences in how happy the divorces were may come down to the individual state statutes governing this aspect of family law. If a state has an easy, streamlined divorce process and allows for no-fault divorces, couples in that state may be more likely to agree on terms and file an uncontested divorce. Similarity, states like Texas that have collaborative law can help push couples more toward an amicable resolution of the separation instead of turning it into a long court battle.

Having the appropriate legal representation can also help keep your divorce on the amicable side, as it's easier to feel confident about your decisions and compromises when you are fully informed about all of the possible pros and cons.
