Man pleads guilty to felony after failure to pay child support

While it can be tempting not to pay child support if you are not part of your children's lives, failure to pay can have serious consequences. One man is now finding this out more than 10 years after he was first ordered to pay.

Examining the concept of sole custody

In recent years, there's been a trend toward divorced parents sharing custody of their children so that they can both stay involved in their lives. However, sometimes joint custody is not possible or in the children's best interests -- such as when a parent has a substance abuse issue or a history of child abuse or other types of domestic violence. In most cases, the non-custodial parent still gets some type of visitation rights, although it may need to be supervised.

Seek legal help to see or care for your grandchild

Last week, we talked about how serious child custody matters can be. One area we covered was the importance of following ordered schedules for visitation, but we concentrated on how those schedules impact the parents of the children in question. What if you are a grandparent and you want to be involved in your grandchildren's lives or feel you are needed to ensure they are cared for properly?

Custody violations must be taken seriously

Child custody agreements have a host of terms located within them. One of the terms that is included is when each parent will be able to spend time with the child. The schedule is something that should be followed; however, there are some instances in which one parent might try to prevent the other parent from seeing the child. This is actually against the law. It is considered interfering with visitation or child custody.
