Handle holiday custody issues right away

Thanksgiving is this coming week. That doesn't leave parents much time to finalize those holiday plans. For parents who are divorced, this means that right now is the time to make sure that you and your child's other parent have everything planned out for the holiday.

The first place you need to look if you have questions about the holidays is the child custody agreement. Many agreements specify who is going to have the child when during the holiday season. These agreements are usually binding, so be sure that you know what the conditions are.

If there are some issues with the schedule or if there isn't one at all, you and your ex will likely have to work together to come up with a holiday schedule. Both you and your ex will need to be flexible and willing to compromise to make the holiday season custody plan work.

In some cases, it might not be possible to come up with an agreement for the holidays. You would then need to turn to the court system for an arrangement to be made. It is crucial that you know your rights and responsibilities so that you can determine how you are going to proceed with your plan to have the arrangements for child custody made.

As you are working to determine the holiday schedule, remember that the focus must be your children. Finding ways to help them enjoy the holiday season, even if it means you and your ex have to attend the same holiday play, can help your child make memories he or she can remember fondly.
