Warring spouses still feuding 10 years after divorce started

While the following divorce story did not occur here in Texas, the wild circumstances involved in this separation are truly something to behold. A couple originally from Connecticut filed for divorce back in 2003; and 10 years later, they appear no closer to a resolution than the day they filed.

The couple claimed in their divorce filing that their relationship was irretrievably broken. But they had significant assets and two children -- and apparently a lot of skeletons in the closet. The husband in this case worked for a multibillion dollar hedge fund that was taken down because of evidence his ex-wife handed over to the Securities and Exchange Commission. Apparently her husband engaged in insider trading. She also accused her husband of abusing her and having a narcissistic complex.

Her ex-husband countered, saying that she has kept him away from their children for four years now; that she rejected his advances for "unification therapy" with his children; and that, in general, she was running a swear campaign to ruin his reputation. There are plenty of other details involved in this story, but there's only so much you can share before it simply becomes too much.

In our last post, we talked about collaborative divorce. Obviously, this couple didn't go that route. However, it is important to realize that for many couples, the hostilities these two share is common. What matters most when you feel these hostilities is think things through, and not act irrationally. You and your spouse, though you may be angry with each other, can complete a mutually-beneficial divorce that allows you both to move on to greener pastures.
