Getting a divorce can negatively affect your health

Going through a divorce is hard, but some people don't realize just how much divorce can affect you. In fact, divorce can have some negative effects on your health that you should know about if you are considering a divorce, currently going through a divorce or going to head to the courthouse soon to file a divorce petition.

Some people who go through a divorce suffer from chronic health conditions, such as heart disease, at a higher rate than people who aren't divorced. Troubles like depression and insomnia might make it difficult to live a healthy life during and after the divorce. That can make chronic health conditions, and even mobility issues, run rampant. In some cases, metabolic syndrome, which includes a variety of health issues like high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high blood sugar, is possible.

Ending a marriage can increase your anxiety level. The uncertainty of life after the divorce and the thought that you have to face the world alone might be more than you can bear at some point. This can lead to problems like insomnia and appetite issues.

Weight changes can occur during a divorce. This can go either way. Either you turn to food for comfort or you shun food because you aren't eating. Trying to take control of your eating habits can often help you to control your weight during and after the divorce. In some cases, getting help for your emotional turmoil might be necessary.

Substance abuse is another serious problem that can creep up. You might find yourself seeking comfort in drugs, cigarettes or alcohol. Lack of social support can make this effect of divorce more pronounced.

Trying to control your stress level during the divorce and finding a new normal routine are vital. You should work to get answers as to how the marital assets might be divided, as well as answers to any other questions you might have.
