Grandparents can often exercise rights to grandchildren

Grandparents love to spend time with their grandchildren. Many grandchildren have fairly free access to their grandparents. When parents decide that grandparents shouldn't see their grandchildren, there might be an issue. Of course, some grandparents don't have access to their grandchildren for other reasons. We know the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren is a relationship that usually benefits the grandchildren. We will fight for the rights of grandparents when they have a legal basis for exercising their rights.

In some cases, grandparents won't be able to fight to exercise their rights. This is the case when there isn't a legal basis for these rights not to be exercised. We can help you to understand where your case stands according to Texas law.

If you have helped to raise your grandchild and are suddenly forbidden from seeing that grandchild, you might have a case. This is also true if your grandchild previously lived with you or if the grandchild is living in a dangerous situation.

One way that you can be granted grandparent rights is through an informal agreement. This is done through an authorization through the child's parent. An informal agreement can give you certain permissions, such as the right to make decisions about the child's religion, education and medical care.

In some cases, grandparent rights are possible through collaborative family law. We can help you explore your options for being able to see or raise your grandchildren. Once you know what options you have, you can decide what option is the one you are comfortable with using to deal with your situation.
