Think about more than value during property division proceedings

The property division process during a divorce is very important because it can either set you up for success or doom you to failure in the near future. Of course, even the worst property division settlement can be overcome, but you shouldn't have to deal with trying to do that. We know that you are ready to get your divorce moving forward but that you want to ensure you are getting what is rightfully yours.

When you are going through the property division process, you have to think about the assets and debts you have. You can divide the property and use the debts to offset differences. However, you mustn't get so focused on what seems like an even split today that you neglect to think about how the division will impact you in the future.

In our previous blog post, we discussed how credit might be impacted by a divorce. This is only one of the facets of life that might be affected by what you get in the divorce settlement.

Another thing that you have to think about is how the assets you get are going to impact your income in the future. The upkeep, maintenance, and other expenses related to assets can cost you money in the long run. Those expenses might make an attractive offer for property division a little less attractive.

We know that you have a lot to consider when you are going through property division. We are here to help you consider all of the points that pertain to your case so that you can think with a clear head instead of your emotional ties to the items in question.
